Eight of Cups
This card is a call to action in a way few minor arcana cards are. The universe is giving you permission, or even pushing you towards, leaving something once beloved behind. As a cups card, it’s always something close to the matters of emotions. If you’ve been feeling the need for a change, this card is a positive sign. The leaving behind can be an elegant switch of thinking. For example, “I won’t feel like a victim anymore” or “I’ll only play songs that make me happy from now on.” Or it can be a physical departure as inelegant as leaving items behind on vacation. It doesn’t usually have to do with another person. It’s a personal change of heart that improves your quality of life only. The Eight of Cups appears for kind and adaptable people who just happen to be at their last straw. It feels like the situation at hand is enclosing around you, giving you less room to freely move around. If it feels like a test, that’s because it is. Listen for guidance on the next move from your future self.
Eight of Cups Reversed
The Eight of Cups reversed signifies a challenge to let go of something that’s not great for you, like addictions, phobias and irrational fears. When the card appears reverses, it means you’re stalling on making the decision to snip these out from your life. It’s a test of faith. Your worry is, “I’ve gone so far with these choices, who will I be without them?” This card is the archetype of a great friend who helps out others, but leaves their personal life a mess. You suffer from self-doubt and believe your problems aren’t as crucial to care of. In the grand scheme of things, your issues are as important as anyone else’s. They are worthy of attention. The main thing this person should work on is restrictive self-beliefs. You’ve been blessed with a great imagination which has been reserved for distractions unfortunately. You just have to balance focusing your own problems and helping friends a little more.
