The Hierophant

The Hierophant is someone who stands for doing things right, which to them is through the established way. Rather than forging a brave new way ahead, the Hierophant finds comfort and power following the path that the ancestors left. Especially in regards to groups of people, whether they are bound by religion, school, companies, or society, this is often the best option. The Hierophant makes a simple suggestion and leaves little room for creative interpretation. Their advice is to follow the ideas of your family, role models, or authority figures who came before you. In unstable times, this is exactly what you need. Symbolized by a vampire, this card is considered a little old-fashioned in its desire to stay within the conventional bounds of the status quo. They say, “You don’t always have to be innovative. You may need to do what is expected of you at this time.”

The Hierophant Reversed

In typical tarot fashion, the Hierophant reversed has the same energy of the upright version of the card, though there exists an imbalance. This means there’s either an overemphasis on tradition and doing things “the right way” or a resistance to asking for help. If you received this card in reverse, it may be time to learn how to live with this authority rather than acting rebellious. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Experiment, and be curious. There’s not as much pressure to conform as you think there is.
