Seven of Wands
The Seven of Wands tells of close but conflicted relationships. This is the card that comes up, for example, when the “baby” of the family decides to dress more true to their personal style, embracing dark colors and flashy jewelry, going against their family’s modest and overall beige style. It can also be that your career is taking a different turn than your family intended. In most cases, you’re defending a new stance against those closest to you rather than outside forces. If this card is upright, it shows you have the upper hand. You’re in the right regardless because it is your personal decision. Others can criticize, but you’re the only one who has to sleep with your decisions at night. Let it slide off your back. As stated, you have the high ground, so they can’t influence you much.
Seven of Wands Reversed
The story here is similar to the upright card, which shows inner conflict within a family. However, this card appears reversed when you’re giving up because of constant criticism from those close to you. The Seven of Wands reversed shows a tendency to give into others’ wishes too readily even when you have the upper hand. This card reversed has the same energy as circus elephants chained at their feet since youth. While they could easily break free after a few years of growing, in a way, they’re self-trained not to since they “know” they can’t break free as small elephants. So they just stop trying. With the Seven of Wands reversed, you have resources to turn to for help. It’s worth emphasis that your greatest resource here in yourself. Tap into the fire energy of your own passion and indignity and stop caring what others think.
